DAVE MERLINO, Ed.D.

...unveils the human condition, culture, & taboo & disrupts engineered narratives for agency towards a healthy, equitable & transformative society πŸ‘€πŸ˜±πŸš€.

"My heart lays at the intersection of education, advocacy, agency, and multimedia, whereby human experience, behavior and culture are given an intimate lens to deploy awareness and critical thought for a paradigm shift toward biopsycho-spiritual maturity, acuity, and direction.I'm also inherently driven to protect the most vulnerable, stigmatized, and marginalized - amplifying, validating, and supporting unheard voices for self-actualizing their birthrights, evoking morality in others, and unifying all.I believe we're in a revolutionary period of advanced consciousness and dynamic mass media systems. This marriage delivers time and viability to foster scientific data and creative solutions to epidemics for greater realization, equity, belonging, improved health and transformative change.Advocacy and education through the medium of storytelling, campaigns, impact journalism, and evidenced-based research expressed via media for quantifiable outcomes is my quest. This approach generates bottom-up social movements to mobilize humanity toward conscious effort, grassroots activism, and service for the ultimate ethos and liberation." πŸ•΅οΈπŸ˜˜

dr. Dave Merlino

SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGIST, HEALTH EDUCATOR, RESEARCHER, WRITER & Creative

I'm a professionally trained applied researcher, writer, and student of life. My work bridges academic scholarship, creative writing, and visual storytelling. With a doctorate in education, I focus on the intersection of learning, technology, and human experience.By making research accessible and engaging for a broad range of viewers, I aim to create content that's intellectually rigorous yet translatable and relatable, believing that scholarship should extend beyond academia, utilized as a tool for evidencing truth telling. This fortifies integrity and dignity while imparting social impact, fair justice, and change, where applicable. The end result is a cohesive and organic pathway for not only improved legacy in academia, media and entertainment but identifiable high impact content for the most deserving audiences.More definitively, I have a deep passion to experience and learn from social nuance, the unorthodox, microcultures, and diversity with a calling and vocation to educate on such for refining mass consciousness through shaping ignorance into comprehension, inclusiveness, virtue, and peace. Moreover, I'm innately drawn to protect and advocate for stigmatized populations while counteracting systemic marginalization endured from patriarchal narratives or conditions that invert, pervert, and divert our human decency.Further, I'm deeply connected to health science, from a nutritional, dimensional wellness, and quantum perspective, that, of which, evidences our connection to the greater, unseen forces of our ecosystem and how it relates to our mind, body, and spirit.I cover topics in:
πŸŽβ€οΈπŸ‘€ Self and social identity, leadership, relationships, social thinking & cognition, social influence, social groups & behavior, attitudes, prejudice & discrimination, hardship/trials and tribulations, consciousness, quantum mechanics, ethics/morality, authenticity/self-actualization, & spirituality
πŸŒŽπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸš€ Global health, international relations, diversity, culture, environments, & food
πŸ₯‘πŸ†πŸ₯’ Nutritional science, wellness, longevity/aging, & older adults
πŸ’₯πŸ’‹πŸ‘ Sexuality/Sexual health
πŸ‘¨β€οΈπŸ‘¨ LGBTQ+ health
My current academic research focuses on what I've termed "fringe" LGBTQ+, such as closeted, questioning, straight/masculine presenting, behaviorally bisexual, non-gay identifying, and/or some derivative of sexually interactive with men (SIM) populations, and how heteronormative culture and [toxic] masculinity moderate their "outness," health, and well-being. Relatedly, I've upheld my dissertation defense, "Investigating the Effects of Heteronormativity and Minority Stress on Mental Health, Well-Being, Disclosure, and Concealment of Non-Gay Identifying and [Behaviorally] Bisexual Men" (see below).I’ve earned my Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Health and Applied Educational Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. Further, I have an M.A. in Health Promotion, Certificate of Graduate Study in Sustainable Community Planning and Design, a B.A. in both Economics and International Relations, and 500 and 600 hour certifications in clinical nutrition and Ayurvedic health counseling, respectively. If you want to get to know me personally, follow me on www.ko-fi.com/davemerlino. πŸ•ΊπŸΏThank you for being here! 😘
